| About the Network The API Network was established in 1997 and for eight years to the end of 2004 was a scholarly imprint through the University of Queensland Press. Between 2001 and 2004 the operations were progressively transferred to Perth where the API Network through its imprint Network Books was established as a not-for-profit publisher of scholarly titles on Australia. The API Network through Network Books is a Copyright Agency Limited (CAL) and Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) registered publisher of Australian scholarly titles. The following refereed journals and scholarly book series are published by the API Network: Refereed Journals: Journal of Australian Studies, Australian Cultural History, Life Writing. Scholarly Book Series: Australian Scholarly Classics, Symposia, Australian Essay, Fresh Cuts. In 2006, the API Network published the work of more than 100 research scholars across sixteen print-based scholarly titles. The API Network also publishes electronically: API Review of Books, Altitude 21C, Creative Arts Review Scholarly publishing through Network Books is the sole (not-for-profit) commercial operation of the API Network which also maintains a free scholarly communications Network. Dedicated to the 'democratisation of knowledge', the Network website links public intellectuals through its publications, mailing list, online Forum, chat room and regular posting of news relating to book, journal and ezine publications, conferences, events, tours and funding opportunities in the field of Australian Studies. The journals of the API Network are fully refereed according to DEST standards and the selection and publication of book titles is made according to a similar refereeing process. An editorial board of peers was established in 1997 and continues to operate in conjunction with a publications board. The API Network has an independent Board of Management and Advisory Board.
